What are the Petya and WannaCry ransomware?
Petya / NotPetya, WannaCry, and WannaCry2 are massive global ransomware attacks that are affecting Windows machines that have not been patched to fix the EternalBlue vulnerability.
While they both operate slightly differently as ransomware, what is very disturbing is that they both spread from machine to vulnerable machine. Past versions relied on the end user taking an action--downloading it from the web, clicking on a link in an email, or clicking on a malicious attachment. Petya and WannaCry only needs to be detonated once before they start to spread virally.
